The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Montenegro, in partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and in cooperation with the Ministry of Economic Development, is organizing a training on industrial symbiosis, intended for companies from the manufacturing and service sectors.

The training will take place on Thursday, 22 January 2026, from 09:00 to 13:00, at the UN Eco Building in Podgorica (Stanka Dragojevića Boulevard, bb).

The training will combine theoretical foundations and hands-on practice, covering the core principles of the circular economy and industrial symbiosis, and explaining how industrial symbiosis differs from traditional recycling and waste management approaches. Participants will explore industrial symbiosis from a business perspective, including different models of cooperation, resource-use synergies, and international best practices relevant to Montenegro. Through practical tools and an interactive World Café session, participants will work on mapping resource flows, identifying losses and by-products, and uncovering concrete opportunities for collaboration between companies, such as resource exchange, shared infrastructure, and knowledge sharing. The training will also address success factors and common barriers to industrial symbiosis, the role of facilitation and trust-building, and available support mechanisms and next steps, including pilot projects and future cooperation opportunities.

The event is part of a broader project supporting the development of the circular economy. In the next phase of the project, financial support for companies is planned through grants for the development of circular solutions and industrial symbiosis projects.
