As countries of the Western Balkans move towards a greener, more resilient future, circularity has become not only an environmental imperative but also an economic opportunity. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, one digital tool is already showing that sustainability and competitiveness can go hand in hand.

ReUseChain.ba, a platform developed by the Mozaik Foundation from Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in partnership with Sparkasse Bank BH, connects companies that generate material surpluses with those that can reuse them. By turning waste into value, it supports business performance while reducing environmental pressure — a crucial step in accelerating the region’s transition towards a circular economy.

The idea behind ReUseChain.ba

The platform emerged from a clear observation: valuable materials are discarded every day, while companies simultaneously pay increasing costs to source new raw materials. Bridging that gap became the inspiration for ReUseChain.ba.

The initiative is supported by Mozaik ESG Solutions, a specialized department within the Mozaik Foundation that works closely with companies on ESG integration and sustainable business practices. Beyond facilitating the exchange of secondary materials, the platform also tracks CO₂ emission reductions, giving companies measurable and transparent data for their sustainability reporting.

“Circular economy is not just an environmental choice – it is a new business logic. ReUseChain.ba shows that sustainability can be both profitable and simple when companies have the right tool in their hands.” – Vilma Tunjić Juzbašić, Director, Mozaik ESG Solutions

How the platform works

ReUseChain.ba functions as a B2B digital marketplace where companies can post offers or requests for secondary raw materials. Categories include metals, wood, plastics, textiles, glass, electronics, rubber, and residues from the agricultural and food industries.

Registration is free and open to all legal entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Each exchange is recorded within the system, allowing users to track savings, avoided landfill disposal, and the environmental benefits generated. Companies can select between free and premium service packages based on their needs for analytics, visibility, and direct communication with potential partners.

Benefits for businesses and the circular transition

For companies, the platform offers three major advantages:

  • Cost savings through reduced disposal fees and access to more affordable materials.
  • New revenue opportunities by selling surplus materials instead of discarding them.
  • Improved ESG reporting with quantified CO₂ savings and data on resource reuse.

Beyond individual benefits, ReUseChain.ba strengthens local supply chains, encourages collaboration, and contributes to reducing the region’s dependence on landfilling — turning circularity into a practical business advantage.

“When companies recognize that waste has value, they gain more than financial savings — they gain resilience. ReUseChain.ba helps businesses create new economic opportunities while building a sustainability mindset that will shape the future of our region.” – Vilma Tunjić Juzbašić, Director, Mozaik ESG Solutions

A regional opportunity – with future potential

Although ReUseChain.ba is currently focused on the market in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the concept was designed with scalability in mind. The Western Balkans share similar challenges in waste management, resource efficiency, and alignment with European sustainability standards — which means that digital circular solutions have strong regional potential.

A practical step toward a circular future

ReUseChain.ba demonstrates that circular economy solutions do not have to be complex to be transformative. By enabling simple, transparent, and measurable material exchange, the platform shows how digital tools can accelerate the shift from a linear “take–make–dispose” model to a regenerative, resource-efficient economic system.

The circular future of the Western Balkans will be built through practical actions — and ReUseChain.ba stands as one of the first digital instruments proving that this transition is already in motion.
