November 24th is this year\u2019s Circular Monday \u2013 for the ninth consecutive year. Shining a spotlight on circular and sustainable consumption as a crucial step toward achieving net-zero emissions.<\/b><\/p>\n

Originally founded in Sweden in 2017, Circular Monday was created as a <\/span>counteraction to Black Friday<\/b>, offering an alternative to the rampant overconsumption of newly produced, often unsustainable products. Today, Circular Monday has evolved into a global movement, making it easier than ever for consumers to access <\/span>sustainable goods and services<\/b>. What started as a small movement in 2017, is now a global platform where people can find circular solutions from all over the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the <\/span>first year <\/b>where businesses, organisations and other stakeholders are<\/span> joining from the Western Balkans<\/b>, and the Western Balkans Circular Economy Hub is proud to be leading the movement in our region by encouraging circular leaders to take part and amplify the impact.<\/span><\/p>\n

The campaign and movement is run by volunteers and participants engage by posting circular solutions, hosting events, sharing repair tips, or offering circular products. The movement thrives through collective visibility online and offline.<\/b><\/p>\n

Circular Monday: A Solution to Global Overconsumption<\/b><\/h3>\n

\u201c40-70 percent of global carbon emissions comes from unsustainable production and consumption<\/span><\/i>. Black Friday represents outdated consumer habits, and Circular Monday is offering a solution by promoting sustainable, circular alternatives,\u201d <\/span><\/i>says Alexandra Davidsson, <\/b>Co-founder of Circular Monday.<\/b><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Recent developments in the circular economy reinforce the need for initiatives like Circular Monday. Financial institutions like the European Investment Bank (EIB) are stepping up their support for circular business models, recognizing their role in reducing emissions and fostering sustainable growth. In 2024, the EIB increased financing for projects aimed at promoting reuse, recycling and reduced waste,\u00a0 aligning with the goals of Circular Monday. This institutional backing highlights how systemic financial support is growing alongside consumer movements, both working towards a circular future. <\/span><\/p>\n

What has been achieved last year?<\/b><\/p>\n

– 1,400+ buddies (companies, organizations, and influencers) driving circular leadership joined the campaign<\/span><\/p>\n

– Buddies from 40 different countries participated, a significant increase compared to 30 countries that joined in 2023<\/span><\/p>\n

– The campaign reached 40 million people worldwide in 2024, positioning Circular Monday as a leading global movement for circular action.<\/span><\/p>\n

How to join this year\u2019s campaign in 3 steps:<\/b><\/p>\n

  1. Sign up<\/span><\/a> to become a Circular Monday Buddy.<\/strong> You have options to join as an organisation, company or an influencer. By joining your business or organisation will <\/span>be part of the world\u2019s largest directory of circular solutions, visible to consumers, partners, and the media during Circular Monday and beyond;<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. On Monday, November 24th, publish a regular post on your social media channels using the hashtag <\/span>#CircularMonday<\/b> (<\/span>Guidelines for creating content here<\/span><\/a>), mentioning your offer, your impact, or why you\u2019re part of the movement. Tag Circular Monday on social media if you\u2019d like to be reshared;<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Participate in the <\/span>global event<\/span><\/a> on 24th of November 3-4pm where the organisers and spokespersons of the campaign will reveal<\/span> this year\u2019s campaign results and showcase how circular solutions are reshaping the world. Expect inspiration, global perspectives, and engaging voices leading the way towards a more sustainable future.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
